‘Namái Ye Un Ayeri’ – a poem in Asturian and English by Xe M. Sánchez

    Namái Ye Un Ayeri

los poemes aseméyense abondu
a eses ciudaes que les lleendes
alluguen baxu les agües
o sapozaes baxu les viesques.

namái surden dende’l pasáu
p’amosamos que nos,
la xente d’anguañu,
namái tamos fechos
de pallabres pantasmes.

poro pescancié que ye imposible
imaxinar el futuru
con pallabres vieyes
y que’l presente
namái ye otru ayeri.

    It is Only a Yesterday

poems are quite similar
to those cities which the legends
place under the water
or buried under the forests.

they only sprout from the past
to show us that we,
the present people,
are made only
with phantom words.

that is why I understood
that it is impossible
to imagine the future with old words
and the present
is only another yesterday.
